The Alpaca Experience
Alpaca time can’t be rushed
What to expect
At Popham Farm you can expect a warm welcome and a celebration of alpacas!
It’s difficult not to smile when you see an alpaca – they are a funny bunch, each with their own character and quirks.
We’ll welcome you to the farm and introduce you to the alpaca boys. After a brief talk we’ll set off around the farm – your woolly friend will walk at your side on a lead rein. We’ll wander through farm tracks, fields and woodlands, so there will be lots of photo opportunities. The pace is slow – alpaca time cannot be rushed! Walk with your own alpaca, or one between two for a shared experience.
We’re passionate about alpacas and happy to talk ‘alpaca’ as much as you like, so feel free to ask any questions along the way!
After the trek
The walk lasts around an hour, after which you’ll have a chance to feed the alpacas, take selfies and meet the other animals on the farm. The pygmy goats are a huge favourite – very playful and cheeky! Our little ponies and cats will come over to say hello, and you can meet the big horses, including a Shire Horse.
We have a little shop selling drinks and ice creams, as well as alpaca products that make great gifts or souvenirs.

Had a wonderful time. The lodges are excellently equipped. Gary & Felicia are a lovely couple who are only too pleased to help out with whatever they can. The lodge was spotless, the patio area had beautiful view and the hot tub was a real bonus. We looked out of our windows every day to see the Alpacas just enjoying their freedom, and the very informative talk and walk with them was the perfect memory of our trip. Would definitely recommend a weeks stay here.Posted on AlmaAugust 12, 2021Verified Fantastic experience! Great to be so close to these beautiful animals! Met the mums and babies group, hand fed some adults, walked through the beautiful woods alongside peaceful and calm alpaca boys, and even got to see an very newly born baby. A delightful experience, we learnt a lot about these lovely animals and even had some good coffee and excellent flapjacks. 😀 Highly recommended.Posted on blakeatthesmithySeptember 5, 2020Verified Remarkable Alpaca Experience Thoroughly enjoyed our Alpaca Experience at Popham Alpacas. Gary and Felicia were excellent hosts for the day ensuring that all of our expectations of the experience were met. It was great to learn about life with Alpacas and I could see that this was more of a passion that then progressed to a business. They were very accommodating with answering all questions from our very inquisitive family. The walk was wonderful allowing us to get up close and personal with our chosen alpaca and also giving us the opportunity to meet the other members of the alpaca family. The Covid situation has caused this business some challenges which they have overcome, however, I would highly recommend you book your visit and support a passionate family business. You won't be disappointed. This visit has been the highlight of our holiday and we have lots of photos to share and remember our experience. Thank you Gary and Felicia for a wonderful day.Posted on Libby DAugust 14, 2020Verified Perfect end to a perfect stay! We stayed in the lodge on the farm for a week and fell in love with the alpacas so were very excited to end our holiday with the alpaca meet and greet experience! After admiring them from the other side of the fence all week it was so fun to get up close to the mums and babies who are so cute and inquisitive! And walking the boys through the woods was a wonderful experience! Also very interesting and informative, we both learned a lot! Thank you to Gary and Felicia for fitting us in for the perfect end to an amazing stay. Hope to come back in the winter sometime as the Christmas alpaca walk sounds amazing too!Posted on GreggAugust 1, 2020Verified Throughly enjoyed Went to walk the Alpacas today not really knowing what to expect. Have to say, I really enjoyed learning about the farm and alpacas. It’s a shame we couldn’t do some bits because of COVID-19 restrictions, but I would happily come back again.Posted on Devon.MaidDecember 8, 2019Verified Amazing alpaca experience Fabulous experience walking the alpacas plus lots of interactions feeding them and learning about them. Experience included a stop in a lodge with open fire, mulled wine and mince pies. A very special few hours indeed.Posted on JoeDecember 8, 2019Verified Great experience A great experience walking the alpacas run by a charming couple that are really knowledgeable about the animals. It was a relaxing time with a wonderful halfway point in a lovely cabin including a drink. A really nice day for any age with hosts that couldn't do enough to help and make it special.Posted on JacklynneOctober 24, 2019Verified Best way to end our vacation! We found this place online and decided that we just had to go. We were greeted by a lovely couple who clearly care so very much about their animals. Our favorite part was walking Bryan and Illustrious, who were very good boys. We can't wait to come again next year. Thank you for a fabulous morning!
A note about dogs
As much as we love our four-legged friends, we kindly ask that you leave your dog at home when visiting the farm for an alpaca trek. Our alpacas are gentle, curious creatures, but they’re also highly sensitive to unfamiliar animals, especially dogs.
To ensure a calm and stress-free experience for everyone (especially the alpacas), dogs are not permitted on the farm. We appreciate your understanding, and look forward to welcoming you to the farm.
Ready to meet your walking partner?
Come amble the Cornish hills with one of our friendly alpacas. We promise no crowds, no noise, just gentle company and fresh air.
