The Alpaca Experience

Alpaca time can’t be rushed

What to expect

At Popham Farm you can expect a warm welcome and a celebration of alpacas!

It’s difficult not to smile when you see an alpaca – they are a funny bunch, each with their own character and quirks.

We’ll welcome you to the farm and introduce you to the alpaca boys. After a brief talk we’ll set off around the farm – your woolly friend will walk at your side on a lead rein. We’ll wander through farm tracks, fields and woodlands, so there will be lots of photo opportunities. The pace is slow – alpaca time cannot be rushed! Walk with your own alpaca, or one between two for a shared experience.

We’re passionate about alpacas and happy to talk ‘alpaca’ as much as you like, so feel free to ask any questions along the way!

After the trek

The walk lasts around an hour, after which you’ll have a chance to feed the alpacas, take selfies and meet the other animals on the farm. The pygmy goats are a huge favourite – very playful and cheeky!  Our little ponies and cats will come over to say hello, and you can meet the big horses, including a Shire Horse.

We have a little shop selling drinks and ice creams, as well as alpaca products that make great gifts or souvenirs.

Our visits are not timetabled or rushed, but generally the whole experience takes about 2 hours.

A note about dogs

As much as we love our four-legged friends, we kindly ask that you leave your dog at home when visiting the farm for an alpaca trek. Our alpacas are gentle, curious creatures, but they’re also highly sensitive to unfamiliar animals, especially dogs.

To ensure a calm and stress-free experience for everyone (especially the alpacas), dogs are not permitted on the farm. We appreciate your understanding, and look forward to welcoming you to the farm.

Ready to meet your walking partner?

Come amble the Cornish hills with one of our friendly alpacas. We promise no crowds, no noise, just gentle company and fresh air.
